Councilman Completes Omaha’s Half-Marathon.

Pictured above, City Councilman, Chris Jerram is pictured smiling while crossing the finish line after his 13.1 mile run at the Omaha Half Marathon on September 26, 2010. Afterward, Chris shared his enthusiasm for the event. “I enjoy jogging. It is my primary workout. This time, I was fortunate to enjoy seeing my wife, Jennifer, complete her first half marathon. I also happened to share a few miles of conversation with a neighor and her father, who were running togther. The scenery around the the finish line along the riverfront in Omaha ranks right at the top of the list. Marathon and Half Marathon events have become major tourism events, attracting thousands of visitors who typically spend significant sums on hotels, restaurants and shopping. I’d love to see this event take off, too.”

Omaha’s New Snow Removal Plan

You play an important role in keeping Omaha a thriving place to live, work, play, dine and shop. Now that the temperature is beginning to drop, it won’t be long before the snow starts falling. The Public Works Department has spent a considerable amount of time revising its snow plan. The new wheel fee will help fund what is designed to be an improved snow removal system. In this regard, additional private contractors have been hired for this year. They have been tasked with addressing the residential neighborhoods. They can also enhance snow removal in other areas. I really hope this works better than last year.

An important component of the snow removal process is getting the word out. You can help in this process. Please share the attached City of Omaha 2010-2011 Winter Snow Removal Plan and attached Snow Emergency Parking Plan (remember, the Snow Emergency Parking regulations are only to be used in declared “snow emergencies”) with your Neighborhood Association members and neighbors. Battling Graffiti Should Be a Team Effort

District 3 seems to be an increasingly popular area for “taggers” and others who are defacing our public and private property with spray paint. In order to mount an effective anti-graffiti campaign, it is becoming increasingly clear that the sooner we can report and clean up graffiti, the more those who would seek to engage in the activity realize that certain areas are not worth their time. We need fast reporting and clean up. Those are proving to be big deterrents. Here’s some simple tips:

Report Graffiti: email me with the location, being specific: chris.jerram@ci.omaha.ne.us
Take a digital photo or photo with your cell phone and attach it to your email.
Request a “Graffiti Kit” (clean-up kit) from the Neighborhood Center of Omaha. 402.561.7582

District 3 Road Resurfacing Projects Prioritized

The number one complaint I have received from constituents spanning the length of my term in office is the deteriorating condition of our streets. This summer, major street resurfacing projects have been completed in the District. Pictured above on Leavenworth Street, Chris Jerram, stopped by the construction site to inspect its progress. Jerram added, “Leavenworth Street was crumbling in this area. Temporary patching was not working. I am glad we were able to completely mill out the old surface and replace it with new asphalt.” District 3 also had major street resurfacing projects in other areas. “We must remain committed to seeing the major street resurfacing project continue. Many asphalt streets in the older portions of the city are paved over the old brick pavers. The asphalt just doesn’t seem to hold up for long periods of time.”
